This happening on the day after New Year's, 2005. Going up by a "nickel" across the board.
This now means that a one-to-three-stage adult journey is going to be ninety cents. A trip out to Bray Strand will now be €1.85 one-way...and if you wanna ride to somewhere like Leixlip, it'll be a whopping €2.10...and somewhere like Balbriggan or Newcastle Co. Wicklow will be €4.10 or so, right? They gotta consolidate fares if they want people to switch back to the bus; but I guess that the privatisation crusade put zero impetus into DB engaging in something as modern as a flat fare...

At least it will mean less rooting around for those silly 5 cent coins, so hopefully it will mean less time at stops while people fish for change. I still think we should bring back conductors on some of the busier routes.

Routes like the 78A are already flat fare routes. Everybody pays 85 cents no matter where they are going.

The outer suburban fare to Newcastle Co. Wicklow will be ¤3.10 - an increase of only 5c. Extraordinary good value, considering it's a 24 mile trip.
Dublin Bus' fares are amongst the cheapest in Europe. The whingers never notice that though, do they?

If U want to make a bus journey of any length in London from the 2nd Jan and pay by cash (Only into a kerbside Ticket Machine mind U) then U better have £1.20 STERLING in yer sweaty paw which is around 1.70 in Euro. I daresay that the higher fares elsewhere are going to support vastly improved rail systems, something that is slow in getting started in Ireland...note that Britain at last, the birthplace of powered railways, finally has a train operating at 186 mph on its soil while the fastest an Irish train will go is about 90 mph.
And my point about flat fares negates the notion that Ireland's public transport fares are less than elsewhere—especially when the outer suburban fares are brought into the equation, some zones starting just ten miles from the city centre.Posted 3 years ago # -

the cost of my journey has gone from ¤1.65 to ¤1.75, which i would gladly pay if there was a better bus service that meant i could get a bus home from work, rather then have to wait for one that is not full. why do we need increased charges anyway? how much profits are dublin bus making from uncollected bus refunds?Posted 3 years ago #

i have about ¤10 worth of refund tickets at home! My fare was ¤1.65 and now is ¤1.70 but 9times out of ten I throw in ¤2coin-easier, quicker, handier. But I must cross the Liffey and make my way to O'Connell Street to collect my change!

Did I mention that it's utter "skcollob" that DB are raising fares when they have generated a surplus for the second year running? Wouldn't they reduce fares in the face of such brilliant fiscal performing??

well would spent more time trying to have the correct change for your journey, than wasting time here ranting on about 5c/10c refund ticket, I think you'd be financially better off.. and as AlekSmart suggests, send the ticket to a Charity of your choice. be innovative, creatative. and less of a aold wan moaning about the silly cents!

there is away around this . if you travel on a bus by a 1-74 fare more then once a day . get yourelf a book of 5 one day ramblers for 16-00 . 3-20 per ticket tats 30 cent saving on 2 1-75 journies and you can take other buses for nothing during the rest of the day if you need to .

DB must have the cheapest bus fares i know of!
